Welcome to Mills and join us as we step inside a typical day. Put on your biggest smile and prepare to see just how much you can learn when your education is made enchanting and meaningful at the same time.
It's Monday, so as you enter the shiny glass doors you will see Ms Deirdre, the School Director. Greet her, please, as she likes to say hello. Try the daily interactive activity on the easel at the entrance. Today you're asked to stick a paper flower to a drawing of Mummy's dress and say the colours as you go! Now climb the few stairs and step into our spacious school.
If you're early for lessons you might choose to ride a wooden tricycle on the toy roads of Hong Kong, or cook in our toy café, or climb on our exciting apparatus - there is plenty of space in our Wonder Room!
On the dot of lesson time your class teacher will come and find you and gently show you to your classroom where enticing open-ended and theme-based activities await you each day. Each class has a colourful mascot who will make you feel cared for and cosy in your class.
The school day always starts with a moment of quiet and calm focus, where we put our thinking hats on and prepare our brains for learning new and exciting things. The inspiring international MindUP curriculum is incorporated into our learning at Mills, teaching children to be mindful of the world around them and encouraging self-awareness and self-esteem too.
Next, it's time for a song or two, and a new dance to learn in English or Mandarin depending on the day. We learn to greet too, and share some show and tell about ourselves before we are happily led to a whole range of play activities and early literacy and numeracy activities, depending on age.
Don't forget to find the time to enjoy looking at our topic tables, make a cake in our play kitchen, take a doll for a ride in our toy prams, help Bob the Builder complete a tower or two, and 'read' a story to teddy in our book corner too!
The xylophone might chime, signalling it's time to help tidy up our toys and get on the choo choo people train to the Art Room where you can happily paint to your heart's content, enjoy the feel of squashy playdough, or splash your hands in the water play tubs. Perhaps your help is required by laoshi to fold and cut some paper into simple fruit shapes that you can say in Mandarin. Alternatively, you might be led to the Star Room where you can swirl and twirl and wiggle and jump about, or practise your throwing and kicking skills with our multi-coloured balls and gym equipment. Maybe you'd prefer to crawl though our play tunnels in search of an imaginary tiger. It's all fine with us!
All that play and excitement has made you hungry we're sure, so quickly wash your hands in our colourful washrooms and make your way back to your classroom. Sit down next to teddy and some classmates, and enjoy a portion of healthy fruit, biscuits, and juice.
If you're in K1 or K2 it might be mathematics or early science or literacy time. Through the UK Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum that we closely follow, we'll ensure you are readily capable of graduating to the primary levels of 'big' school one day soon.
Snack is over; it's time to sit close to the teacher for a circle time, learning new information and skills with themes like jungle animals, people who help us, or things that move. Try your hand at the range of theme-based activities attractively on offer in the classroom. Your teacher will guide and encourage you all the way.
Time flies when you're having fun, and we always keep time to come together at the end and celebrate what we have achieved, reflect for a minute or two on what we have liked best, and sing as loudly as we can our newly learnt goodbye song.
A wave and shoes on, a smiley sticker to say we have been to school today, and a promise to come back tomorrow.
That's a Mills kind of day that we are sure you'll enjoy!
