Message from the School Director
What a successful first term of school! Well done to all of our students who have studied so well and had lots of fun too. Thank you, parents, for supporting your children’s learning and participating in all that has happened during Term 1.
Dear parents and children,
The end of Term 1 is approaching and the holidays are just around the corner. Teachers have been working one-on-one with students as they have completed their second topic-based assessment of the academic year. Results are extremely promising with students displaying the capacity to retain a lot of information about their topics and also the ability to present their own thoughts and ideas in a logical and articulate manner. These are important skills to have.
December Reports have been issued to all students, and you will also receive your child’s Portfolio and Progress Record booklet to view over the holiday period. We hope you enjoy seeing the contents of the Portfolio – this is a wonderful opportunity for you to view some of the things that they have been doing in class and engage with your child in discussion about their learning. Please remember to return both the Portfolio (including contents) and the Progress Record to your child’s teacher on 2 January.
Thanks to our wonderful teachers and students who made impressive decorations and displays, our school looked magical for the recent End of Year Concert. It was a truly enjoyable and memorable event, and we were proud that the children confidently stood up and performed in front of such a large audience. Your generous applause was no doubt very encouraging for them. It’s lovely to hear them still talking about the concert and singing their Christmas songs around the school!
Don’t forget that all students are invited to come dressed to school in a festive winter jumper on Friday, 15 December to support Save the Children charity. Mills is proud to be a sponsor of the first Christmas Jumper Day in Hong Kong, and we look forward to seeing the children dressed in their fun jumpers on the last day of school before the holidays.
Our new Head Boy, Head Girl, and Class Captains for 2017-2018 have been announced. Congratulations to Head Boy Oscar Chun Wai Li, Head Girl Tsz Yin Ng, and Class Captains Daven Yik Lok Leung, Mia Marin, Candy Zhuohui Chen, Alec Christophe Ze Ying Lee, and Yan Hei Chung. You have all shown strong leadership skills and a caring, supportive attitude to your classmates.
We would like to thank our Administration Manager, Mr Dennis Kwok, who will be leaving Mills to move on to new adventures. Dennis has been a valued member of our team and we wish him the very best for the future. As our school continues to grow, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Zita Sze Wan Yip who will be joining us as School Manager from January 2018. Zita has been Assistant Manager, Examinations Services with the British Council for 17 years and she comes to Mills with lots of experience and exciting ideas to make our school even better! We welcome Zita to our school community.
There are lots of exciting events planned for Term 2. A few days after school reopens, we will celebrate Care For All Things Day. We’ll also be celebrating Chinese New Year and Easter during Term 2 – so time to mark some dates in your diary and join in the fun!
During the winter break, encourage the children to post a letter, postcard, or drawing to school, so that we can add it to our Mail to Mills display!
Seasons greetings and happy holidays full of fun, love, and cheer from everyone at Mills!
We look forward to welcoming you all back at school on 2 January, for more enjoyment and learning throughout 2018.
Playgroup, Pre-Nursery, K1, K2, and K3
During the first few weeks of December all students have been getting into the festive spirit and exploring the topic Winter Wonderland. Take a look at some of the fun activities and serious learning that’s been happening at school recently!
We wish you a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing the children again in 2018!
Warm wishes, from all of the Mills Teachers
