What a fun and eventful month of October we have had, with our autumn-themed activities culminating in a Halloween party full of games, music, and competitions!

十月真是個有趣和忙碌的月份,有很多以秋天為主題的活動,又有一個充滿了遊戲、音樂和比賽的萬聖節派對!

Dear parents and children,

親愛的家長和孩子:

The children were well rested after their mid-term break and ready for more exploration, discovery, and learning during the second half of Term 1.

相信大家都度過了一個愉快的假期,孩子們在休息過後又可以精神抖抖地回到學校繼續探索學習。

We were thrilled to have so many parents support the children during their first parents’ assembly on 28 October, when they presented a wide range of English and Mandarin songs based on the theme Look What We’re Learning. Many of our young students had not performed to an audience before, and it’s not an easy thing to do at first. Tackling new challenges is, however, a wonderful opportunity for the children to discover what they’re capable of, gain new skills, and develop self-confidence. During the practice sessions in class and the presentation in assembly we witnessed them flex their creative muscles, have fun, and discover the benefits of working together as they learnt their words, sang their songs, and moved to the dance routines. These types of activities stimulate the body and the mind, and can have a positive effect on children’s emotional behaviour and development. If done often enough, they help develop social, motor, emotional, and language development. Let’s recognise both the challenges and the benefits of these activities for young children – please encourage them and don’t forget to applaud their wonderful efforts each time!

我們於10 月8 日舉行了第一次家長日,當日很多家長親臨學校參觀,大家都感到非常興奮,他們演唱了多首跟「看看我們在學什麼」主題相關的英文和國語歌曲;當中有部份學生從未試過面對觀眾表演,首次嘗試實不容易;透過迎接新挑戰讓孩子發掘自己的能力、學習新技能和建立自信。透過課堂和集會練習,我們目睹學生展示他們的肌肉、享受當中樂趣,並發現孩子們一同學習單詞、唱歌和跳舞的好處。這類唱遊活動不但可以刺激孩子的身體發展和思維,更對他們的情緒行為和發展有正面的影響;如果持續練習,有助孩子發展他們的社交、身體協調、情感和語言發展。讓我們一起見證這些活動為年幼孩子帶來的益處,每次在他們表演唱歌後請以熱烈的掌聲來鼓勵他們!

It was also nice to welcome some of our families to the Family Art Jam on 26 October and we look forward to more of you joining in the fun during future events throughout the year.

我們很高興在10月26日舉辦了本年度首個家庭手作派對,我們期待有更多人參與未來的活動。

School excursions are a great way for students to gain educational experiences away from their regular daily schedules, and during October there were more opportunities provided for extended learning in a variety of situations and environments.

學校戶外參觀活動讓學生有機會在課堂以外學習新知識。在十月份, 我們還有更多機會讓學生在不同環境下延伸學習。

What fun we had on 31 October with teachers and students getting into the spirit of Halloween by dressing up in creative and inspiring costumes. Activities and games included Catch the Piranha, Pin the Eyes On Frankenstein and Assemble the Skeleton, amongst many others. All of these fun group activities developed teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, as well as gross and fine motor development.

我們在10月31日舉行的萬聖節派對度過了愉快的一天,老師和孩子都悉心打扮來增添節日氣氛。所有這些有趣的活動和遊戲,例如捕捉食人魚、科學怪人的眼睛和拼砌骷髏,均有助孩子發展他們的團隊精神、領導才能、解難能力、社交能力和大小肌肉發展。

As the weather begins to cool in November, K1 to K3 students will have their physical education lessons outdoors, weather permitting, and this is sure to be fun and invigorating!

踏進11 月,秋意漸濃,K1 至K3 的學生於天朗氣清的日子將於戶外上體育課,屆時一定會充滿歡笑聲和朝氣!

Note that students will change from summer to winter uniforms by mid-November, so please complete your winter uniform order form and return it to administration as soon as possible.

學生需於11 月中換上冬季校服,請儘快填妥並交回定購冬季校服回條,敬希留意。

Playgroup 遊戲班

With the cool months finally upon us, Playgroup students have been exploring the themes Autumn and Watch Me Grow!

隨著清涼的季節終於到來,遊戲班的學⽣將會探索「秋天」和「看著我成長」的主題。

We talked about trees changing colour when the weather becomes cooler and the children loved looking through cellophane paper and watching as their world turn yellow and red!

我們談到天氣轉涼時樹木會變色,孩子們喜歡把染上不同顏色的玻璃紙放在眼前,看著世界變成黃色和紅色!

They especially enjoyed our sensory autumn leaf painting activity, when we used fingers to paint leaves in orange, red, and green.

幼兒遊戲班的孩⼦特別喜歡我們的感官秋葉填⾊活動,我們用手指把葉子變成橙色、紅色和綠色,感到十分神奇!

As part of the theme Watch Me Grow, we’ve been learning about how important it is to do exercise. Every Playgroup class involves some physical development and movement activities to encourage students to stretch and play, and engage their gross and fine motor skills!

作為「看著我成長」主題的⼀部分,我們學習做運動的重要性。每個遊戲班都加入了體能活動,以⿎鼓勵學⽣多伸展和玩耍,發展他們的⼤肌⾁和⼩手肌運動技能!

For our theme Watch Me Grow, we used height charts to explore the concept of growth. Our students even planted green beans themselves and look how much the plants have grown!

對於我們的主題「看著我成長」,我們使用了量度身高的圖表棒來探索成長的概念。我們的學生甚至自己種植綠豆,來觀察這些植物長高了多少!

The children loved listening to the story Baby Owls and made their own baby owls at night.

孩子們喜歡聽《貓頭鷹寶寶》的故事,並在晚上想像自己的貓頭鷹寶寶。

Pretend play is great fun for young children and Playgroup students had a chance to imagine being grown-ups as they role played as doctors and chefs this month.

角色扮演對於年幼的孩子來說非常有趣,遊戲班的學生一起想像自己變成了大人,一起扮演醫生和廚師的角色。

Our Playgroup classes are lots of hands-on-fun for mummies, daddies, aunties, and grannies and grandpas too! We love exploring and learning together.

我們的遊戲班課程對於媽媽、爸爸、姨姨、祖⽗母來說都很有趣!我們喜歡一起探索和學習。

Pre-Nursery 預備班

This month Pre-Nursery students focused on the topic Colours and Shapes Make My World. The children loved exploring the different coloured water beads in the sensory bins and were amazed by how squishy, slippery, and bouncy the beads are once soaked in water. They carefully scooped up the beads into small containers – a fun way to develop good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

這個月預備班的學習主題為「創造我世界的顏色和形狀」。孩子們喜歡在感官箱 中探索不同顏色的珠子,見到顔色珠子浸泡在水中後變得柔軟、滑溜、富彈性 而感到驚訝。他們小心翼翼地將珠子舀到小容器裏,是一個有趣又能訓練手眼 協調和小手肌的活動。

They’ve been learning to identify colours through sorting and matching up toys according to their respective colours. Using colour matching to make creative collages provided further practise for the children.

孩子學習依據各種不同的顏色來把玩具分類和配對,透過色彩配對來製作創意拼貼,為孩子們提供進一步的識別顏色練習。

They also enjoyed using both hands to mix paint and discovered how to create new colours during the process – a wonderfully tactile introduction to colour theory and science! Mixing different coloured paints inside ziplock bags proved very engaging too.

他們也十分喜歡用雙手混合顏料,並在這個過程中發現如何創造新的顏色 - 這是對色彩理論和科學的首個觸感接觸!  在密實膠袋中混合不同顏色的顏料也十分有趣。

They love gross motor skills exercises too, and have great fun learning to flex their bodies by bending and stretching during warm-up activities in the Wonder Room.

孩⼦也喜愛訓練⼤肌⾁的運動遊戲,⼀起在「奇妙房間」做熱⾝操,彎曲和伸展他們的身體。

We also spend much-loved time in the library and the children enjoy selecting favourite storybooks for us to read together.

我們也⼗分喜愛在圖書館的時間,孩⼦們喜歡選擇⾃己最喜愛的故事書,讓我們一起朗讀。

We’ve also created our very own non-scary ghosts and jack-o’-lanterns, and were excited to finish the month with our Halloween party at school!

我們還製作了鬼馬的鬼魂和南瓜燈籠,大家都很高興以歡樂的萬聖節派對來結束本月!

Let’s continue to enjoy learning about different things while becoming independent and expressive thinkers!

Our theme Animal Magic has concluded and the students did a fantastic job during their recent assessments. They are now able to name and sort animals into farm, jungle, and aquatic groups. They’re also doing a wonderful job completing their homework on time. Thank you, parents, for supporting your children and getting them into a healthy routine.

我們的主題「動物魔法」已經結束,學⽣們在最近的評估中亦表現出色。他們現在能夠説出各種動物的名稱,並把牠們分為農場、森林和海洋類別。孩⼦按時完成家課,感謝各家長對您子女的支持,讓他們養成健康的⽣活習慣。

This past month we have been studying the theme I Am Growing Up and the children have been exploring topics such as healthy eating, the five senses, and our emotions. They have also been learning to make comparisons between how they looked as a baby and how they look now.

過去一個月我們的主題是「我正在成長」,孩⼦們將會探索健康飲食、五種感官和情感等主題。他們還會比較嬰兒期和現在的樣子有甚麼不同。

Thank you for sending in the adorable photos of the students – we had lots of fun guessing who each baby was and discussing how they have changed over the years. They also enjoyed making their own personalised booklet, colouring it with their favourite colour, and drawing their favourite things inside.

感謝您為孩子準備的可愛照片 - 我們一起猜每張相片裏的孩子是誰,並討論他們於過去數年間的變化。他們還很喜歡製作自己的個人小冊子,用自己喜愛的顏色填色,並在裡面畫出自己喜歡的東西。

Our K1’s have also been proudly sharing and demonstrating how independent they are by putting on their shoes by themselves, caring for their classmates, and tidying up after snack time.

我們K1的孩子自豪地分享和展示他們的獨立自理能力,他們會自己穿鞋、照顧同學並在吃茶點後整理清潔。

They had lots of fun during our theme-based obstacle course race! This involved the students having to first make their bed then crawl through the tunnel and put on their shoes as quick as they could. The students demonstrated confidence and were excited to be able to complete the course all by themselves.

我們又以此主題設計了障礙賽,孩子們都樂在其中!學生們首先自己鋪床,然 後爬過隧道並快速地穿上他們的鞋子。學生們表現出自信,並且很高興能夠自己完成整個障礙賽。

In order to develop good hand-eye coordination, the children have been practising paper tearing, modeling with play dough, and threading. One of the fine motor activities they particularly enjoyed was using clothes pins to hang toy clothes on the washing line! What a great way for them to learn practical life skills and experience how to dry clothes after washing them.

為了培養良好的⼿眼協調能力,孩⼦們⼀直在練習把紙張撕成條狀,⽤黏⼟製作手⼯和穿線。他們特別喜歡的其中一個⼩手肌訓練活動就是用曬衣夾將毛公仔穿的衣服掛在晾衣繩上!透過模仿洗衣服後怎樣曬乾衣服來學習實用的生活技能。

This is a wonderful theme to enhance their understanding of the world and develop their personal, social and emotional skills and we look forward to exploring it further during November.

這個主題可以增強他們對世界的理解,培養他們的個人、社交和情感技能。我們期待他們在十一月時表現得更好。

K2

Students have shown fantastic progress during October. The month began by completing our Tell Me a Story topic, and they have also completed their first topic-based assessment. They all demonstrated an ability to remember and recall the characters and the features of specific books, and also the ability to retell scenes from various stories in correct sequential order. Students where also asked to draw a picture of their favourite character from any of the stories studied.

⼗月份,學⽣們取得了驚⼈的進步。我們不但完成了「給我講故事」主題,並完成了第⼀個主題評估。孩⼦們都記得每本故事書中的不同⾓色和特⾊,並能夠順序複述不同故事的場景。學生一起繪畫自己最喜愛的故事人物畫像。

We have now started our new theme, Mini-beasts, and learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly. Creative caterpillars were made and students wrote a letter of their name on each body segment.

我們開始了新主題「迷你昆蟲」的學習,認識了蝴蝶的生命週期。又製作了創意十足的毛毛蟲,學生在毛毛蟲的每節身體上寫上了組成他們名字的英文字母。

Autumn and halloween were also explored this month and the children enjoyed creating spider hats!

本⽉還探索了秋天和萬聖節主題,孩⼦們喜歡製作蜘蛛帽!

Our phonics and numeracy programmes are progressing well. We have completed the full alphabet review and during Jolly Phonics activities students are starting to identify both beginning and ending sounds as well as read three letter words. In Numeracy, we have focused on counting to 50 using a number line, writing numbers 1 – 20, and addition of single digit numbers using manipulatives such as blocks, beads, pom poms, and toy insects.

我們的拼⾳和數學科課程進度良好。我們已經完成了完整的字母複習,在Jolly Phonics活動期間,學生們開始識別開頭和結尾的聲音,並閱讀由三個字母組成的單詞。在數學方面,我們使用數字線從0數到50,書寫數字1至20,並使用積木、珠子、絨球和玩具昆蟲等來學習單位數字的加法。

Fortunately we have had good weather recently so using magnifying glasses to search for different types of mini-beasts in the park has been a hit with the students. Outdoor physical education classes are also popular. We’ve been exerting extra energy and developing our ball skills. Students focused on controlling a ball through a course of cones using their feet only. This has proven to be challenging for most of the children as their reactions and coordination skills are still developing. We have great fun during these lessons and it is important for the students to enjoy physical activity to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

幸運的是最近的天氣很好,學生帶著放大鏡到⼾外公園搜尋不同類型的小昆蟲,孩⼦都⼗分雀躍⾼興。戶外體育課亦十分受歡迎。我們⼀起練習球技,學⽣們用腳帶著球穿過不同雪糕筒來訓練控球技巧。事實證明,這對大多數兒童來說是具有挑戰性的,因為他們的反應和協調能力仍在發展中,但⼤家都樂在其中;從小培養孩子愛好體能活動以保持健康和平衡的⽣活方式是不可或缺的。

K3

October has been an electrical month for the K3 class as we explored our new theme Switch on the Light. The theme was broken down into smaller topics, the first of which was ‘light’. The students explored what light is, where it comes from, why it is important, and differentiated between natural and artificial light.

十月份的主題圍繞電力相關的課題,首先探索「請開燈」的新專題,專題被細 分為較小的主題,第一個主題是“光”。學生們探索了光是什麼,它來自哪裏,它為什麼重要,以及如何區分自然光和人造光。

‘Electricity’ was the next topic and circuits were briefly introduced. With such a bright and willing group of students we should be drawing and building circuits in no time.

「電力」是下一個主題,我們已簡單地介紹了電路。擁有如此一群聰明開朗的學生,我們應該於稍後便會繪製和構建電路。

We also hope to explore alternative sources of energy later this year to understand how we can build a better future for all human kind.

我們還希望在本學年的較後時間探索各種不同的替代能源,以了解我們可如何為全人類創造更美好的未來。

What would school be without some fun? The K3 class always makes time for physical activity and this month we have focused on balance and coordination. Although there are still some natural wobbles present, the students have shown great improvements in class and have become more knowledgeable about how the human body works. A range of developmental games have been played, but Stuck-In-the-Mud has certainly been a favourite.

如果沒有樂趣,學校會怎樣?K3 課程總會為體育活動騰出時間。本月,我們專注學習身體的平衡與協調。儘管在各種身體測試中仍然存在一些自然的擺動,但是學生在課堂上已展現了很大的進步,並且對人體的運作有更深的了解。孩子參與了一系列的成長發展遊戲,但「給泥濘困住了」 肯定是最受歡迎的一個。

Students also continued in their quest to learn how to play the ukulele. It has been amazing to see how quickly they were able to hold a rhythm whilst switching continuously between two chords.

學⽣繼續學習如何演奏夏威夷四弦琴。令人驚訝的是,他們能夠在兩個和弦之間連續切換的同時又保持節奏的速度。

K3 students continue to develop and grow in a fun and nurturing environment. Show and tell is a wonderful way to gain confidence in presentation skills, learn how to ask questions in a formal setting, and enjoy sharing favourite items with their friends in class.

K3學生將繼續在一個有趣的環境中學習和成長。展示和講述環節能增強孩子對演講技巧的信心,學習如何在正式環境中提問,以及與班上的朋友分享喜歡的物件。

Although the next couple of months will be jam-packed with exciting activities, the K3 class is always ready for a challenge and we look forward to sharing more exciting news with you soon!

Pre-Nursery

Pre-Nursery students have been learning about different colours through storytelling and songs for their topic Colours and Shapes Make My World. They were able to match coloured cards to corresponding coloured balloons, and identify and say the colours in Mandarin. For the game Matching Candies they did a great job recognising coloured candies and putting them into matching candy jars. We look forward to exploring more colours and shapes during November.

踏入十月,學前班的孩子們在《顏色和形狀的世界》這一主題活動中,通過聆聽故事、歌曲和各種遊戲活動,認識了主要的顏色和名稱,聽完老師講《氣球飛走了!》這個故事後,孩子們能夠根據不同顏色的詞卡找到與顏色對應的氣球,並能跟隨老師用普通話說出:「這是紅氣球,這是黃氣球,這是藍氣球……」等簡單的句子,還能愉快地唱《顏色歌》呢! 而在「糖果配對」的遊戲中,孩子們也能把不同顏色的糖果放在相應的糖果罐裏,看著孩子們越來越享受學校的生活,老師由衷的開心!我們期待十一月繼續學習不同的顏色,並會進一步展開「形狀」這個內容的學習。加油小朋友!

K1

K1 students have been exploring the theme I Am Growing Up and they understand that they have grown up from a baby to a three year old child. They’ve also been showing their caring side by taking care of the baby doll. Fine motor skills have been developing further with students threading ribbon through small holes and kneading paper into small balls. The students are very proud of their growth and development.

在《我正在長大》的主題單元中,我們以《比一比》的故事引入主題,小朋友透過不同的活動明白自己已經由嬰兒時期長大至三歲了,他們更學著幫忙照顧玩具寶寶呢!他們的小肌肉技能發揮得更好,不但能以毛絨條和吸管穿過紙巾筒上的小洞,也能嘗試把縐紋紙捏成小紙團。小朋友對自己的成長感到非常自豪!

K2

K2 students have been investigating the natural world for their theme Mini-beasts and have been learning about small creatures such as butterflies, spiders, and snails. They observed models of mini-beasts and increased their interest further by exploring stories such as The Mystery of Nature, Three Butterflies, and Home Underground.

在《微型小生物》的主題單元中,老師引導孩子們一起探索了奇妙的生物世界。孩子們十分享受故事活動、觀察活動、音樂律動活動帶來的樂趣。通過這些有趣的活動,孩子們認識了蝴蝶、蜘蛛、蝸牛這些可愛的小生物,老師不但給孩子們提供了豐富的小生物模型給孩子觀察和了解,並通過《自然界的奧妙》、《三隻蝴蝶》、《地下100層樓的家》等故事引發孩子們對小生物的興趣。在觀察蝸牛的活動中,孩子們興奮無比,他們一邊觀察蝸牛,一邊比對書中的內容,好奇心和求知慾被充分地發揮出來,真是一個充滿樂趣的單元啊!讓我們一起期待十一月的到來,我們將繼續探討其他的小生物,相信會有更多讓人驚喜的發現。

K3

K3 students showed great interest in shadow play during their previous theme and we continued to explore this technique during their current theme Switch On the Light. Students understand the importance of light and can now classify different light sources. They watched a video about Thomas Alva Edison and explored the history of the invention of electric light. In order to share shadow play with more children, K3 used this technique to perform the poem Four Times at the recent parents’ assembly.

高班的孩子們在上一個主題中,對「皮影戲」產生了興趣,於是我們以「皮影戲」為切入點,開啟了第二個主題《開燈》的學習。我們通過皮影戲的活動,知道了光源的重要性,並進一步認識了光源的分類。通過觀看「愛迪生」的影片,我們知道了電燈這一重大發明的產生歷程,並知道了愛迪生這個偉大發明家的故事。為了讓更多的小朋友認識皮影戲,在十月家長的集會中,我們將皮影戲作為表演道具,一起演繹古代詩歌《四時之風》。期待孩子們在十一月繼續在《開燈》這個主題單元中有新的發現。

Welcome back, everyone! What a joy to see our students recharged and ready for the fun and challenges that lie ahead for the new school year.

歡迎大家再次回到校園!很高興見到孩子們朝氣勃勃地走進課室,準備迎接新學年的新挑戰。

Dear parents and children,

親愛的家長和孩子:

The beginning of the school year marks a time of promise and potential, and 2019-20 is no exception! With skilled and devoted staff and a supportive family community at Mills, each and every student is poised to achieve academic excellence, become emotionally and physically stronger, and grow their talents.

每一個新學年都代表着承諾與潛能, 2019-20學年亦不例外!在苗士這個大家庭裏,有一班充滿熱誠和擁有資深教學經驗的老師,也有一班積極主動的後勤員工,在苗士就讀的每一位學生在學術上均獲取優異成績,在情感和體格上茁壯成長,天份亦得以充分發揮。

Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment where all children flourish and become responsible, caring people. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to adjust to a new class, peer group, and teacher. Throughout September, we’ve see the children settle in, play well, work hard, and make new friends.

我們的教學宗旨就是提供一個能夠孕育孩子茁壯成長、培養孩子責任心和懂得關愛別人的環境。感謝各家長在新學年的首數星期對孩子需要重新適應新班級、朋友圈和老師的諒解。整個九月份,我們看見孩子重新投入課堂日常、在歡樂笑聲中玩耍、用功學習和結交新朋友。  

We watch as even the youngest Pre-Nursery students quickly identify their cubby, change their shoes, and place their items for class in the drop off boxes. It’s reassuring to see the children so keen to do things for themselves as this promotes important practical life skills.

能夠在苗士見證到年紀最小的學前預備班學生懂得辨認自己的玩具、自己換鞋及自律地在課堂上放好自己的東西實在令我們鼓舞。小朋友學懂獨立,同時能夠促進及培養未來生活需要的技能。

K1 children are developing their confidence and social skills as they foster new friendships and learn to work together. We also see them widening their vocabularies with pre-writing and counting activities.

K1的小朋友在苗士發展友誼及一起學習的同時能夠培養自信心及社交技巧。除此之外,小朋友也能透過練習寫作及數字練習中擴大自己的字彙。

K2 students are making firm attempts at writing both in Chinese and English. They’ve also been gently introduced to their Jolly Phonics and numeracy programmes.

而K2的學生則開始練寫中英文字, 也開始慢慢認識數字和英文拼音。

Higher up the school in K3 (Year 1) we are seeing wonderful efforts being made during spelling and numeracy exercises. Dictation, aural comprehension, and mental math tests will be introduced soon.

而K3(一年級)的學生則在努力地完成每星期定期的拼字和數學練習;稍後便會有默書、聽力閱讀理解和心算。

Our Mills community is important to us and we have lots of exciting family events planned for the upcoming year. Nothing brings people together like festivals do, and cultural celebrations are an important part of our school life. These events enhance communal harmony, appreciation of others, and an understanding of the world for young children. It was great to see so many of you join the children and teachers in school recently, to participate in varied activities based on the Mid-Autumn Festival.

We’re committed to supporting your children’s learning and this year we’ve extended our co-curricular offerings by providing the new Step Ahead™ programme. Step Ahead allows Mills students aged 2 – 6 years to remain at school until 4.00pm each day for a personalised learning experience. At only $2,800 per month, spaces are sure to fill up fast.

We were proud of our co-curricular students for attaining excellent results in their recent examinations. Mills students achieved up to 15 shields – the top mark in the Cambridge examination! Our students also received first class results in the GAPSK Mandarin examination. Personalised private lessons are available for students wanting to perfect their English or Mandarin skills for everyday use, language examinations, or preparation for primary school entry interviews. Talk to our Administration staff if you would like to arrange private lessons for your child.

Playgroup 遊戲班

We welcomed new students to the Playgroup Junior and Playgroup classes, and the children have bonded with their friends during lots of exciting activities and free play.

我們歡迎參加了幼兒遊戲班和遊戲班的新生,孩子們透過不同的有趣活動和自由玩耍時間互相認識新朋友 。

This month we’ve been focusing on the theme All About Me and the children have been learning about their body, facial expressions, and different things they like to do.

本月的學習主題「了不起的我」讓孩子認識身體的各部位和面部表情,還有他們喜歡做的事情。

This has of course involved lots of wonderful singing and dancing with musical instruments in our Star Room, as well explorative free play in the Wonder Room. Our Playgroup students have become much more confident as they discover what different things they like to play with by interacting with their friends!

我們一起在星星房唱歌跳舞,還用不同的樂器來伴奏;又在奇妙房間玩自由發揮的探索遊戲。遊戲班的孩子透過跟其他孩子互動,發現自己喜歡的各種不同事物和遊戲,大大增強了孩子的自信心!

Playgroup children having been learning about their senses by exploring textures and smells, and even used oranges to do some painting!

孩子們通過探索不同物料的質感和氣味來發掘他們的感官,甚至還用香橙來畫畫!

We celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival and the children loved finding mooncakes and placing them in the box. They also enjoyed mixing colours and creating moon-themed artworks.

我們一起慶祝中秋節,孩子們喜歡尋找月餅並將其放回盒子裏。他們還十分喜歡混合顏料並創作以月亮為主題的手工。

Pre-Nursery 預備班

Our Pre-Nursery children have made a wonderful start to preschool! They arrive each day excited to be in class, see their teachers, and meet new friends. It’s hard to believe it’s only been six weeks since we first started to say goodbye to our parents and caregivers on the first day.

預備班的孩子朝氣勃勃地開展了一個新學年!他們每天都懷着興奮的心情回校上學,見到老師和新朋友都難掩他們愉快興奮的心情!很難想像自我們從第一天上學開始,孩子向父母和照顧者說再見以來只有六個星期。

They have quickly familiarised with daily routines such as changing to indoor shoes, and putting their folder and water bottle in the basket outside the classroom. They wave goodbye to parents and caregivers, make their way to their classroom, and engage with a wide range of fun table-top activities.

孩子們迅速地重拾上學的日常,會自己換鞋、擺放學習文件夾和水壼在課室外的籃子裏;然後跟父母或其他照顧者道別,自己步進課室,參與各種不同的桌面遊戲和活動。

For this first month of school, we have been exploring the theme Amazing Me; learning parts of the body, identifying facial features, learning about feelings and emotions, exploring the five senses, sharing family photos with friends, and making new friends.

在本學年的首個月,我們一起探索了「了不起的我」的學習專題,學習身體的不同部位、面部特徵、學習各種不同的感覺和情緒、探索五種感官、跟同學分享傳閲家庭照片和結交新朋友。 

They’ve also been learning how to participate during circle time, eat snack independently and clean up afterwards too!

孩子們一起學習如何在圍圈子時間參與互動,又能獨立吃零食以及處理吃茶點後的清理工作!

K1 have settled fully into their new class and routines of school life. It is a joy to see so many happy faces filled with enthusiasm and energy each day.

K1的學生已全面投入新的學年和日常,每天見到一張張充滿熱誠和朝氣的快樂笑臉實在讓我們感到非常高興。

The students have been busy exploring the theme Animal Magic and have learnt about jungle animals, desert animals, aquatic animals, and farm animals. They loved searching for aquatic animals and jungle animals in our interactive deep blue sea and tropical forest whilst learning their names and different characteristics. They were amazed to learn that if we touch a jellyfish it can sting us.

學生們正忙碌探索「動物魔法」的學習主題,學習森林動物、海洋動物和農場動物。他們喜愛在互動的熱帶雨林中搜尋森林動物,學習不同動物的名稱和特徵。孩子們驚訝地發現,如果我們碰到水母,牠會刺痛我們。

As a part of our role play activity for aquatic animals, the children got the opportunity to go in a submarine. They had so much fun looking at different sea animals through the windows.

孩子從潛水艇的窗戶探索海洋裏的海洋動物,投入地參與扮演角色的活動,樂趣無窮。

In literacy, the children have been learning to form the letter A with play dough and also enjoyed observing ants with a magnifying glass whilst learning the sound of letter a – a, a, a.

在識字方面,孩子們正在學習用麵團製作英文字母A。他們也用放大鏡來觀察螞蟻爬行來學習英文字母a – a, a, a。

In order to enhance their communication and presentation skills, the students have been participating in our daily show and tell. Children love bringing in toys and pictures to share with their friends and they have been making a great effort to present in front of a keen audience. Keep it up K1! And thank you to all our wonderful parents for helping and encouraging them to share with us in class.

K2

K2 has focused on the topic of storytelling during September, as well as a week celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival. We have covered Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, Elmer and The Gruffalo. All four stories hold strong messages, which the children can relate to their own lives. They’ve had fun recreating the stories dramatically and artistically, and also used the topics as a basis for learning proper penmanship during writing exercises. The children showed great excitement when we ate porridge just like Goldilocks did in the story.

K2班九月份的專題學習主要集中講故事,其中一個星期則用來慶祝中秋。我們以四個帶有強烈訊息及跟孩子生活息息相關的故事為學習內容,分別包括「三隻小熊與金髮女孩」、「三隻小豬」、「大象魏爾默」和「古飛樂」。 孩子從戲劇和藝術層面重新演繹上述的四個故事,大家都樂在其中。在練習書寫時以上述故事為題來學習書法。當我們像故事中的金髮女孩般吃粥時,孩子們都表現得非常興奮。

Singing has been an important part of circle time and a means of practicing numeracy and phonics as well as learning to tell a story through song. In addition, circle time has focused on understanding and controlling our emotions. With the use of colours and full body expressions we are working on identifying our own emotions as well as others. Simple breathing and listening techniques in conjunction with visual representations show the students how to calm their minds during times of over stimulation or dismay.

歌唱是「圍圈時間」重要的一環,透過唱歌學會數字概念和英文拼音,還有透過歌聲來講故事。此外,我們在「圍圈時間」講解了如何分辨和控制我們的情緒,以不同顏色和肢體表達來分辨自己和別人的情緒。教導孩子怎樣透過簡單的呼吸方法和聆聽技巧,以及視覺表徵來平復自己在受到過度刺激或沮喪時的心情。

Art has been a daily activity for the children. They have been exposed to a number of different textured materials, colour combinations, and the freedom to have a little messy fun. We have created Goldilocks bowls, Pig and Wolf puppets, Elmer elephants, and clay models of the Gruffalo.

美術是孩子日常活動的其中一環,每天都會接觸到不同質感的物料,混合顏色的概念和自由塗鴉的樂趣。我們製作了葛洛莉克小女孩的碗、小豬和狼手偶,埃爾默大象以及怪獸古飛樂的粘土模型。

Physical education (P.E.) has been a lesson which students have enjoyed every Tuesday and Thursday. The focus has been on balance and breathing control whilst stretching. We started with simple balance beam relays and then moved on to hopscotch where the children try to land on one foot and not fall over. This is initially difficult for them, but they pick up new skills relatively quickly, as long as the experience is a positive and focused one.

孩子十分喜愛每星期二和四的體育課,主要學習做伸展運動時要怎樣平衡身體和控制呼吸。我們從簡單的豆袋接力開始,再讓孩子用單腳來跳飛機而不會跌倒,起初對孩子來說會有點困難,但孩子集中精神和積極練習,很快便已掌握這個新技巧。

Phonics has been focused on reviewing the entire alphabet before diving into the Jolly Phonics programme. We have been working hard on introducing the students to lower case and building their recognition of beginning and ending sounds.

在進入Jolly Phonics 拼音計劃之前,我們一起複習所有的拼音字母。我們向學生介紹小寫字母,並增強他們對開始和結束聲音的認識。

They have also covered reading and writing numbers 1 – 10, and identifying and ordering numbers 0 – 20. This has included counting, grouping and estimating materials such as blocks, beads, and pompoms.

他們還涵蓋了讀寫數字1 – 10,識別和將數字0 –20排序。其中包括計數、分組和估計材料如積木塊、珠子和絨球的數量。

Thank you, parents, for your dedication to the children’s school schedule, homework, and reading plans. Workload will slowly increase as the year progresses but the fact of overloading children at such a young age is something I will keep in mind.

They say that time flies when you are having fun; time has never gone so fast in the K3 class! The students kicked off their topic-based learning by travelling into the past and learning all about different types of dinosaurs, where they lived, and what they ate.

人們說快樂的時光過得特別快;在K3班中,時間飛逝從未如此之快!學生進入回到過去的學習主題,學習各種不同類型的恐龍、牠們的住所和飲食。

The class then shifted their focus to the ancient civilization of Egyptians. The students were introduced to several new vocabulary words and explored the mystical world of mummies, pyramids, and pharaohs. The students have been putting a great deal of effort into creating their own class pyramid made of clay, which we hope will be nothing short of a great success.

然後,我們將重點轉移到埃及人的古老文明上,向學生介紹了幾個新的詞彙,並探索了木乃伊、金字塔和法老王的神秘世界。學生們全情投入以粘土創建自己班的金字塔,我們十分期待見到他們成功的製成品。

The K3 class doesn’t let a day go by without practicing math or English, and the students have worked hard to impress in these areas of school life. They’ve been introduced to basic addition as well as solidifying their counting skills. With independent reading being a big goal for the class, the students have been focusing on developing their phonetic ability over the past few weeks.

 在每天的上課時間表裏,數學和英語課程都是不可或缺的,學生們在這兩方面均十分積極用功地學習。他們已學習了基本的加法以及鞏固他們的計數技巧。鑑於獨立閱讀已成為全班學習的主要目標,在過去的數周中,學生們一直專注於提高他們的語音能力。

In between the students’ busy schedules, we have made time to practice our mindfulness through the MindUP™ curriculum, helping students to find clarity and remain calm when encountering situations that may put them under stress.

在學生忙碌的學習時間表中,也會抽時間練習MindUPTM 課程裏如何在面對壓力下仍然能保持平靜心境的思維方式。

We’ve also enjoyed a wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival celebration with several of our parents joining in the fun! The students got off the mark with a fun moon cake race, followed by a well-deserved traditional tea and jelly sharing session. Thank you to all the parents who joined us for such a wonderful celebration.

我們一起享受了美妙的中秋節慶祝活動,我們班有幾位父母也參加了是次活動!學生們參加了有趣緊張的月餅競賽,之後一起分享和品嚐傳統茶和果凍。感謝所有參與是次活動的父母,跟我們一起慶祝這個美好的節日。

With one month past already, we cannot wait for what lies ahead. The K3 class is excited for what the rest of the year will hold.

Pre-Nursery

During the theme Amazing Me, Pre-Nursery students learnt about the five senses as well as other body parts such as head, shoulders, knees and toes through storytelling, singing and sensory games. They are also learning to identify and deal with their emotions through MindUP activities directed by the teacher. They have been doing very well at school!

學前班的孩子們在《神奇的我》這一主題活動中,通過聆聽故事和唱遊活動,認識了五官的名稱,孩子們懂得用普通話說出:「眼睛、鼻子、嘴巴、耳朵」等詞語並認識了「頭兒、肩膀、膝、腳趾」等身體的部位。孩子們還通過玩「吹泡泡」和「猜猜這是誰的(眼睛、鼻子、嘴巴、耳朵)?」等遊戲加深了對這些器官功能的認識。在情緒方面,老師通過MindUP 活動引導孩子認識自己的情緒並懂得用正確的方法舒緩自己的情緒。 學前班的小朋友能夠很快適應學校生活,你們表現真棒!

Welcome to the K1 class! It has been a pleasure to see the growth of the students and how they settle in better day-by-day. During the theme Animal Magic, students have been learning about various animals such as rabbits, chickens, tigers, and fish through storytelling. In order to develop their sensory skills, they have used play dough to make their own favourite animal. The students have also showed great enthusiasm during mathematics activities. They can now count from one to three.

歡迎小朋友來到幼兒班!很開心看到小朋友的成長,並漸漸地投入到新學年的生活當中。在動物的主題中,小朋友通過聆聽《棕色的熊,棕色的熊,你在看甚麼》、《誰在叫》和《小企鵝釣大魚》等故事,學習了與動物有關的詞語,如:小兔、小雞、老虎和魚等等。小朋友也通過感官發展活動,製做了麵糰,再運用麵糰製成自己喜歡的動物。他們十分投入數學活動,能夠在課堂中專心聆聽,跟著老師數數,還運用麵糰完成了1-3的數學活動。真棒!

During the theme Tell Me a Story, K2 students have explored several stories; Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, The Little Red Hen, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, and The Gruffalo, which have enriched their vocabulary range. Their understanding of the story has been deepened through fun role play activities. They showed improvement in terms of verbal communication as they used simple vocabulary and sentences in Mandarin. They are now learning to write, which is a milestone for the students.

During the week of Mid-Autumn Festival, the students learnt about the history and traditions of this celebration. They read a Chinese poem Night Thoughts to their parents during the Parent-Student Sharing Session.

歡迎小朋友來到低班!在「講一個故事」的主題單元中,孩子們通過《金髮姑娘和三隻熊》、《三隻小豬》、《小紅帽》、《大象艾瑪》、《古飛樂》等故事學習了專注聆聽的重要性並豐富了他們的詞彙;通過角色扮演的活動,孩子們加深了對故事的理解;通過進行口頭組詞和造句提升了普通話的語感;他們還開始學習握筆開始簡單的書寫;而在「中秋節」這週,孩子們聽老師講《月亮的影子》、《月亮的味道》這兩個故事,認識了中秋節的來歷、中秋節的習俗和活動等,孩子們還通過給爸爸媽媽表演唐詩《夜思》,感受了唐詩的韻律和意境,對中國傳統文化也有了一定的認識。看著孩子們享受低班生活,老師感到由衷的快樂,你們真棒!

K3

K3 students kicked off their first theme People and the Past by reading The Stone Soup. Not only have they understood that people in the past used to cook with branches, but also learnt about costumes and men’s hairstyles in the past. They even experienced the fun of braiding, using wool as the hair!

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, the students have made osmanthus jelly, which is a very delicious Chinese dessert.

高班的孩子們從《石頭湯》的故事開啓了第一個主題「回到過去」的探索之路。在《石頭湯》的故事中,我們不僅明白了以前的人們普遍是用樹枝生火煮飯,還欣賞了以前人們的服飾裝扮,知道了以前的男人有著長辮子。為了讓孩子們體驗編辮子,老師用毛線做了一頭“黑髮”,讓孩子們體驗編辮子的樂趣。除此之外,我們還運用桂花、枸杞和冰糖製作了中國的傳統糕點桂花糕來慶祝中秋節的到來,大家吃著桂花糕、品著桂花茶,為中秋佳節平添了許多樂趣,真是非常開心呢!
