At Mills International Preschool, we believe that academic learning should be underpinned with play. We offer a diverse range of play activities that stimulate the senses, provide opportunities for creativity, develop fine and gross motor skills, as well as develop critical thinking skills. This child-centered and led approach means our students become confident learners who are engaged in the world around them, whilst their inquisitiveness motivates them to learn. We then help them to make sense of this knowledge and apply it to real-life situations.
We understand the importance both free and structured play have in developing key skill sets. We strive not only to give students an academic education but also to provide all round learning, to prepare them for the next stage in their academic and social lives.
Our teaching and learning strategy provides hands-on experiences and activities that stimulate children’s growth and curiosity whilst working in small groups, and we synthesise the latest research on cross-cultural communication, child development, and teaching into our curriculum.

Mills International Preschool is the first preschool to offer the MindUP curriculum in Hong Kong, and joins several leading ESF and international primary and secondary schools in providing this invaluable addition to general curriculum.
MindUP provides a set of social, emotional, and self-regulatory strategies and skills developed for pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students to cultivate wellbeing and emotional balance. It is an exceptionally effective teaching and learning tool. It is a social and emotional learning programme that has helped thousands of children and teachers in hundreds of classrooms and schools throughout the United States, Canada, and the UK.
When children understand how the brain works – the basic mechanics of its structure, its chemical reactions and neural pathways, and how the brain reacts to stimuli – they in turn become capable of using their brains more effectively and creatively, which leads to a more optimistic outlook and greater resiliency.
The MindUP curriculum helps children:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Improve concentration and academic performance
Gain greater self-awareness
Lessen peer-to-peer conflict (bullying)
Develop greater empathy
Resolve conflict without aggression
Acquire a greater appreciation for views that differ from their own
Secure happiness, optimism, and resiliency
University studies involving hundreds of educators in the United States and Canada confirm that consistent classroom use and fidelity to MindUP’s evidence-based tools and training create more optimistic classrooms, and foster more positive cultures in schools.
